British automaker McLaren will unveil its new concept model at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California Aug. 16.
McLaren’s latest model, the P1 GTR concept design, will make its world debut at the once a year event, held on the third Sunday of every August, where approximately 200 of the most prized collector cars will be on display. The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is considered to be one of the most competitive events in the auto industry.
Garage envy
The automaker’s P1 GTR concept model continues McLaren’s objective of creating the world’s best track-focused drivers’ car. This extends to the model’s name since the first time the GTR moniker was used was when a McLaren F1 GTR won the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1995.
To ensure exclusivity among the automotive community, only owners of McLaren P1 models will be eligible to purchase the GTR version when production begins in 2015. McLaren only plans to build 375 of the P1 GTR models.
Since the vehicle is track-focused, it does not need to obtain road-car regulations. The model’s performance will be based off of “aggressive aerodynamics and styling, a widened track and slick tires” and a mid-mounted engine with an intended power output of 1,000 PS, according to the automaker.

The model itself is not the only perk with purchase. Owners will be invited to participate in driving events at the world’s most iconic racing circuits with support from specialists. Also, owners will have access to McLaren racing simulators with trainers who have helped train Formula 1 champions and exclusive driver fitness consultations with McLaren design director Frank Stephenson.
McLaren will debut the $3,360,384 P1 GTR model at an exclusive preview on Aug. 16 at the McLaren Brand Centre at the 18th Fairway at the Pebble Beach Lodge. Public viewing will be held on the following day.
Pebble Beach’s numerous automotive events have spurred other automakers to unveil models at the venue.
For instance, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars debuted the Phantom Coupé Aviator Collection, an aviation-mirrored line inspired by founder Charles Stewart Rolls, at Pebble Beach Quail (see story).
