German automaker BMW brought Marco Whittmann, the BMW works driver who won the 2014 DTM Champion trophy at Hockenheim, on a tour of its plant in Munich to meet the men and women who create the brand's vehicles.
The driver was introduced to the plant’s employees and given a tour of the research and production behind the vehicles. BMW’s showcase of the plant was also likely a display of Mr. Whittmann as well, demonstrating two very different, but related, parts of the brand.
Driving attention
Mr. Whittmann took tours of the body construction, paint shop, engine production and assembly production parts of the plant. He also learned about the vehicle in which he won four races in this past season.
Also, the BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition, the base models for the racing season, are produced at the Munich location, so Mr. Whittmann got to test drive the car. In addition, he test drove several other of the brand’s collections.
Mr. Whittmann at BMW plant
The day was spent at the plant, and gave BMW employees a chance to witness the results of their work and showcase Mr. Whittmann’s talents and connection to the brand, as well as demonstrate to the driver how and where his vehicles are produced.
BMW has recently been honoring success all over the world.
For instance, BMW celebrated the completion of its first vehicle made in South America.
The new automobile plant in Araquari, Santa Catarina State, Brazil, opened a few weeks ago and completed its very first vehicle. By moving manufacturing to Brazil, BMW is creating a more personal relationship with the country that will likely lead to more sales (see story).
