Swiss watchmaker Breguet was awarded one of the watch industry's most prestigious awards at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève for its Classique Chronométrie timepiece.
The Aiguille d'Or Award goes to the most impressive watch across all categories at the event and is chosen by a diverse panel of 25 experts that include auction experts, journalists and watch collectors. In a space as competitive as the watch industry, earning such a highly regarded honor will help Breguet command top prices.
High honor
A total of 72 timepieces, six from Breguet, were nominated for the Men's category of the Aiguille d'Or prize, and the panel of juries deemed the Classique Chronométrie the best.
An innovation that helped the watch stand out is the use of magnetic pivots that control the negative effects of magnetism and improve rotation and stability of the balance staff. The brand's use of silicon also appealed to judges.
Breguet's Classique Chronométrie
In the women's category, the brand's Classique Dame watch received the most votes during the international exhibitions preceding the ceremony and on the Internet.
Breguet will display both watches at London's SalonQP Nov. 6-8.
The watch industry teems with exclusive events to showcase technical and design marvels.
For instance, 13 top watchmakers recently returned to Hong Kong for the second annual Watches & Wonders exhibition.
The haute horlogerie fair is invitation only and provides watchmakers with a nice space to display their timepieces among a discerning Asian audience. Given that the event was private, brands knew in advance that their pieces would be seen by true brand enthusiasts and watch collectors (see story).
