The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay, CA is participating in the World Wide Fund for Nature’s Earth Hour to demonstrate its commitment to the environment.
During the hour, the hotel will host an In the Dark and In the Raw culinary adventure, which will take place in the hotel’s wine bar. Participating in global events provides luxury brands with an opportunity to connect with more than just their typical consumers.

Earth Hour began in 2007 in Australia to raise awareness about climate change. Eight years later, the hour-long event has spread to 162 countries.
On Saturday March 28 from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., guests will be encouraged to turn off the lights and join the hotel for an evening of events.
ENO, the hotel’s wine bar will provide a mystery flight of wine as the hotel’s sommelier discusses the samples. Also, food options will include menu items that use the least amount of electricity. These options will include community grown food as well.

In the hotel’s spa there will be a complimentary 30 minute class conducted by lantern light.
Other luxury hotel brands have sought environmental campaigns to remain a top choice among consumers looking to minimize their carbon footprint.
For example, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts increased its commitment to bee preservation with an expanded “Bee Hotel” at its Royal York hotel in Toronto.
The existential threat posed on many fronts to bees has been widely discussed and has sparked a rescue effort by many interested parties. Fairmont intends to spur further action by emphasizing that bees need more land, hence the hotel, in addition to cleaner environments (see story).
