Canadian department store chain Holt Renfrew is twisting the Wild West look with a cowboy hat initiative to celebrate the 103rd annual Calgary Stampede.
The event celebrates Western heritage and culture while raising funds for local charities. The light-hearted event not only allows Holt Renfrew to team with several designers to create cowboy hats, but also join in on a revered cultural event.
Hoedown time
Holt Renfrew has teamed with eight designers to create one-of-a-kind cowboy hats. The hats will be up for auction prior to the events and all the proceeds will be donated to the Calgary Heath Trust in support of the Best Beginning Program.
Also, there will be a store-wide shopping event that will donate 10 percent of sales to the charity. The host of a Canadian Television channel, CTV, will host the live auction and the shopping event.
The designers spoke about their inspirations for their hats on Holt Renfrew’s editorial pages, Holt Muses.
Inspirations stemmed from places such as the equestrian world, flowers, modernity and individual people.
The Wild West theme has previously been seen by France’s Hermès bringing the Wild West to Paris with Bandanas de Soie, the brand’s silken bandana line.
The collection was being introduced through a video that literally brings the horseback riding of the Wild West to the streets of contemporary Paris. Hermès’ video was shared on the brand’s social media profiles and Web site and created a narrative for the Parisian maison that was likely to gain attention from consumers (see story).
