Canadian department store chain Holt Renfrew is celebrating the world’s elephants through a themed pop-up shop.

World Elephant Day is celebrated internationally on Aug. 12, and in honor of the occasion Holt Renfrew’s H Project is hosting an in-store event focusing on all things elephant. Retailers often align with social causes, and with African wildlife in the news recently due to the poaching of Cecil the Lion, consumers are more likely to be responsive to this effort.

For the love of elephants
Holt Renfrew’s H Project has teamed up with Brika, a retail concept that highlights the best in modern crafts, to curate a collection of elephant-themed items for the pop-up. In the past, Brika has teamed with the Clinton Global Initiative to combat elephant poaching and the illegal ivory trade.

The pop-up shop for World Elephant Day will be held in Holt Renfrew’s Bloor Street, Yorkdale, Calgary and Vancouver locations for the month of August. Ten percent of items purchased will be donated to Save the Elephants, a nonprofit research and conservation organization devoted to protecting today’s elephants and securing a future for the species.

Items curated for the pop-up include a Me to We charm necklace, Chantecaille elephant palette, a notebook and stationery by Fig & Tulip, a Tanya Tayor envelope clutch inspired by the designer’s trip to Kenya with Save the Elephants, as well as items created by Brika artisans.

Holt Renfrew’s H Project has also lent its support to African culture and artisans through the “Uncrate Africa” in-store shop. The year-long shop will focus on brands that work with African artisans or donate proceeds to African charities, emphasizing Holt Renfrew’s commitment to charity on a global scale.

The H Project allows Holt Renfrew to work with nonprofit organizations and support socially and environmentally responsible fashion (see story).
