Mandarin Oriental issues statement after London fire

Following a fire at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London, the property is assessing the damage.

No guests or employees were harmed in the fire that broke out June 6. Guests who were staying at the property when the fire happened have been relocated and the hotel has temporarily closed until further notice.

“We would like to express our appreciation to everyone who has conveyed their concern about this sad incident and we also thank the emergency services for their swift response,” Mandarin Oriental said in a statement. “We are working closely with them to ensure the safety of the building and to assess the full extent of the damage.”

Fire aftermath
According to the BBC, the blaze began around 4:00 p.m. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

“Mandarin Oriental employs a stringent fire, life, health and safety precautions and we are working closely with the authorities at this time,” the hotel said. “As ever, the safety and comfort of guests and colleagues is our top priority.”

Consumers who have upcoming reservations with the hotel are being told to book alternative accommodations.

Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park had recently wrapped up a complete renovation of its historic 115-year-old building.

The multimillion dollar construction plan ran until this June, but the hotel remained open throughout the process (see story).

As part of the refurbishment, the rooms, suites and public areas were given a new look.
