Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts has issued a statement refuting claims that SurveyMonkey CEO David Goldberg passed away while at the gym at its Punta Mita, Mexico, property.

Mr. Goldberg, husband of Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, reportedly passed away from a head trauma due to falling off a treadmill during a stay at Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita. As with any unexpected death, there has been talk of what caused the 47-year old to pass away suddenly, but Four Seasons is looking to distance itself from the rumor mill through its statement.

Setting it straight
News of Mr. Goldberg’s death broke on May 1 with well wishes to Ms. Sandberg and the Goldberg family streaming in from around the world via social media. Soon, questions began to be raised of how Mr. Goldberg received the fatal head injury while exercising.

Some media outlets reported that at the time of his death, Mr. Goldberg was staying at the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita and was using the property’s fitness equipment when the accident took place. Four Season wishes to clarify that the media reports are unfounded, and that Mr. Goldberg was not a guest at its property.
