British automaker Rolls-Royce is celebrating Singapore’s 50th anniversary with a special-edition vehicle to mark the occasion.

The unique Ghost Series II has been designed to reflect the country’s history and culture with features inspired by the Merlion and the Singapore skyline. By recognizing special events such as Singapore’s anniversary, Rolls-Royce will likely appeal to consumers eager to celebrate their nation’s heritage.

Singapore celebration
Singapore first gained independence as the Republic of Singapore on Aug. 9, 1965. Rolls-Royce’s special-edition vehicle is English White with accents of Consort Red referencing the red and white national flag of Singapore, which features a moon and five stars.

The model, the first created by Rolls-Royce to celebrate an anniversary, also features hand-painted motifs of the Merlion, a mythical creature with a lion’s head and fish’s body that has become the official personification of Singapore. Bespoke Merlion headrests in the vehicle required over 15,000 stitches to complete.

Additionally, Rolls-Royce included treadplates with an image of the Singapore skyline. These unique details help personalize the car and make it more appealing to consumers looking to celebrate the country’s heritage.

Rolls-Royce is not the only luxury brand that has taken the opportunity to celebrate Singapore’s anniversary. This year Swiss watchmaker Hublot expanded its Asian presence with the brand’s largest ever pop-up store in Singapore.

Located in Singapore’s prime shopping district on Orchard Road, Hublot’s pop-up store was open from Aug. 16-26, catering to tourists traveling during their summer vacation. Hublot is also taking the opportunity to launch a special edition timepiece commemorating Singapore’s Golden Jubilee (see story).
