Swiss watchmaker Tag Heuer is bringing out top members of its team for the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans car race.

The world’s oldest endurance sports car race, 24 Hours of Le Mans will be held in Le Mans, France on June 13th and June 14th this year. Tag Heuer plans on bringing a number of its team members to support the racers, including U.S. actor Patrick Dempsey.

Support system
First and foremost, Tag Heuer will be on the track with Team Nissan NISMO and the LMP1 hybrid race car. By sponsoring Nissan, Tag Heuer ensures that it will play a visible role in the event.

Nissan will have three cars in the race with nine drivers who will alternate driving. The automaker is known for recruiting its race car drivers using a PlayStation game.

In addition to the Nissan team, Tag Heuer will also be joined by Chinese driver Ho-Pin Tung and Indian driver Karun Chandhock, who will represent the brand while competing in the LMP2 class.

Tag Heuer has previously used automobile racing to further its reputation as a fast and furious watchmaker. To mark the brand’s association with international motorsport and motor-racing and its need for speed, in 2011 Swiss watchmaker Tag Heuer showcased 10 historic race cars in a special exhibition in Geneva, where it also introduced a new timepiece.

Race cars from carmakers such as Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari were displayed alongside Tag Heuer’s timepieces. The event also marked the unveiling of the Heuer Carrera Mikrograph, Tag Heuer’s first mechanical timepiece with a 1/100th of a second display by a central hand (see story).
