Amid harsh consumer and media reviews, Trump International Hotel Washington has reached an agreement with a local labor union.

The agreement will permit the 6,500 member-strong Unite Here Union Local 25 to orderly organize a campaign to ensure proper working conditions for hospitality workers in the Washington area. Up until reaching this agreement, Trump International has been opposed to the unionization of its employees.

In addition to Trump International’s agreement with hospitality workers in Washington, the hotel brand has announced a new, first-time union contract for its Las Vegas property.

The four year contract will provide food and beverage and housekeeping employees with annual wage increases, a pension, family health care and job security. The contract goes into effect Jan. 1, 2017 and will extend to May 31, 2021.

Since 2014, when workers began to organize at the property, Trump Las Vegas has been the recipient of three separate National Labor Relations Board unfair labor practice complaints. The allegations included firing or threatening to fire those who supported unionizing, intimidation and the creation of rules that did not allow employees to talk to each other (see story).

Both the Unite Here Culinary Workers Union Local 226 and Bartenders Union Local 165, which represent more than 57,000 workers in Las Vegas and Reno, and Trump Las Vegas look forward to “a mutually productive and peaceful labor-management partnership.”

In regard to its labor agreement in Washington, Eric Danziger, CEO of Trump Hotels said, “We share mutual goals with the union, as we both desire to ensure outstanding jobs for the employees, while also enabling the hotel to operate successfully in a competitive environment, and to establish a reputation as one of the finest hotels in the world.”
